I absolutely love Halloween and making fun, themed costumes each year. I know it might seem a little over the top, but it truly brings me joy I love crafting, being creative, and bringing characters to life. Halloween has become a special outlet for me, and it’s something my boys and I can enjoy together, getting excited about each new idea. Last year’s costume was so much fun and probably our favorite photoshoot we’ve ever done!

Materials You Will Need
Mario and Luigi Costume
I debated making the Mario and Luigi costumes from scratch with overalls and matching shirts, but the materials and time added up, and it ended up costing a lot more. In the end, I decided to go with the ready made costumes you can buy, and I actually like them even better! They have that animated, cartoon like look that makes it feel like Mario and Luigi popped right out of the video game. I found these costumes on Amazon, and they worked perfectly for our family theme. I found stick on mustaches that are easy to peel off and apply. The boys thought it was so fun for our Super Mario costume.
Bowser Costume
If you’re an adult who doesn’t love going all out but still wants to join in on the fun, an easy Bowser Super Mario costume is perfect. You really don’t need much just a yellow shirt and this cute Bowser set that comes with the iconic Bowser head and shell. It’s simple to wear, instantly recognizable, and lets you be part of the family’s Super Mario Costume theme without spending hours on crafting or styling.
Princess Peach Costume
For our family’s Super Mario themed costume, I put together my Princess Peach look with so much fun and attention to detail. I chose a floor length pink dress, styled an animated wig to capture her signature look, and did makeup to give that cartoon like, rosy-cheeked effect. I also added DIY earrings and a crown to complete the outfit. Dog Costume
Adding your dog to the family costume is such a fun way to make Halloween even more memorable. As I was searching for dog costumes, I was shocked at how few options there were especially for a Super Mario costume and couldn’t find anything specifically made for dogs.
I didn’t have the time to go the full DIY route this year, so I had to get creative. I ended up buying an adult Yoshi costume and modified it to fit my dog, and honestly, it worked out perfectly! Seeing the whole family dressed up together, including our furry friend, made the costume theme feel complete and brought so much joy. Costume Make Up
When it comes to costume makeup and essentials, I have a few staples that I reuse every year. I almost always wear a wig for my costumes, so having a wig stand has been a total game changer for styling and keeping everything in place. I also use the same eyeshadow palette, makeup, and face paint for most of my looks it’s all become part of my go to costume bin. I just pull it out whenever I need to get ready for a Halloween party or themed costume, and it makes the whole process so much easier.
Photoshop Mario Photos
It can be so much fun to add Super Mario clip art and create a themed photo with your Super Mario costume pictures! I used Canva to make ours, but you could easily do something similar right in Instagram Stories (watch tutorial video below). Since we dressed up in Nintendo costumes, I thought it would be fun to Photoshop the boys into a Super Mario scene and they absolutely loved it! It was such a creative way to show off our costumes and make the photos feel like they came straight out of the game.
