This is how we are going to survive the Minnesota winter! We have been transforming the basement into a playroom this week. I just wanted to give the boys a different place to go to and play since most of the winter we are stuck inside. 😩 They need to be able to get there wiggles out and that’s why I am loving this @lilyandriver The boys love climbing and sliding down the board! It will be perfect! More videos of the boys playing with it on my stories!

I’ve had this blog post written for awhile, but felt recently I was ready to talk about it. I never thought I would become a widow let alone a single parent. I copied a section of my post below, you can read the whole post on my blog. “I've always had this image of what a family should look like. Thats how I thought it was suppose to be and what I thought I would have. It's been hard to come to terms with how my life has turned out. I have to be honest, there have been times where I have felt envious of other families. Every time I see a father and his kids doing something together I am just reminded of what my kids don't have. .

So this is my reality. I can't change it, I can only move forward and embrace it. I have to remember that i'm not the only widow out there, I'm not the only single parent out there. Happy Birthday to my wonderful mother today! I’m not sure I would have survived the last couple years without her! .
.
When I went into labor with the twins Justin was too weak to be with me. My mom stood by my side through out my whole labor and delivery. She had to help me with the babies, she had to help me walk to the bathroom, and had to help me shower because I was too weak to do it all on my own. I didn’t have a husband healthy enough to help me do those things. .
.
When I moved to her house after Justin passed away she gladly changed her home to accommodate us. Her nice west elm side tables were replaced with baby swings, her coffee table replaced with bouncers, and her office replace with a nursery. She never complained and only welcomed us with loving arms. She has become a second mom to my boys. She will rock them at 2am when they are crying, she will bring one into bed with her in the early morning, she will take shifts and watch them. There were days I couldn’t get out of bed and she took the boys for me! She has gone above and beyond as her role of “mother”. I’m grateful for her everyday!!!

Update on the boot! Two days before Marshal’s follow up appointment he fell and screamed really loud. He refused to walk on his leg and was super sensitive. We were worried he did something again and we were glad to have an appointment the next day. We went in thinking surely he had broken something again, but the X-ray looked great! So then we were super confused why he wasn’t walking on the leg. We decided to keep the boots on for another week and take it off for a small amount of time each day. Just last night he started walking a little more normal and I’m hoping he was just having phantom pains. Each day he seems to do better! You guys are so sweet for always asking how he is doing!!!

We (my mom and I) couldn’t help ourselves! We had to get the boys Carhartt hats for the winter! Justin would have died over the red plaid and hat combo! It would have instantly made his phone screensaver! Love Everett’s little smile! ❤️ #winteriscoming❄️ 😬

The picture on top was taken on my last Hawaii trip with Justin. The bottom picture was taken a couple weeks ago when we were in Hawaii. Was it hard doing the same things I use to do with Justin? Totally! Did I let that stop me from doing them again! No way! .

I’ve chosen to not let those things prevent me from living my life! My family and I love doing this 4-wheeling adventure when we visit Kauai. Everyone wanted to go again this time and so did I. I could have stayed home (which probably would have made me more sad), but I decided to go and think of Justin and how much fun we had last time we went together. I try and look at life this way for myself and for my kids. I don’t want to be sad all the time and choosing to face the hard things and go through them will be so much better for me in the long run! .

Trying to learn how to miss him without being sad all the time and miss him more in a happy way! Its not easy but I’m sure will take time!

When your baby starts to fall asleep in the car right before bedtime! 😭 The struggle is real!! If this has happened to you, you know the consequences that follow 😭 not fun! 🤣

The boys just had their 18 month check up appointment with their doctor and she asked if we had started brushing teeth. I automatically got stressed because I had no clue they had to start this early. As if bedtime routine isn’t hard enough we have to add brushing teeth to the list 😩 Haha .
.
Thank heavens for people who create things to make our lives easier. These toothbrushes by @grabease have bristles on both sides of the toothbrush 🙌 I usually do baths at night and then brush teeth afterwards. They move it around and it brushes both the top and bottom! Swipe right to see Everett using it! It’s so brilliant! So glad we have it! What your favorite editable toothpaste?

How cute are these two cuties! My dad and I took them to get pumpkins last week and they were in heaven running up and down the isle of pumpkins! It’s so cute that the local Church bindings around the city have their own pumpkin patches. We just walked down the street and got ours! Check my stories for videos.

Meet Diana: She was diagnosed with Leukemia at her 10 week pregnancy appointment. Diana’s brother is one of Justin’s best friends. She was diagnosed a couple months after Justin passed away. She so so strong and has the most amazing positive attitude! .
.
Her Story: “We sat in the small exam room and the doctor sat across from me and very quickly and plainly told me “you have leukemia.” Nothing was wrong with the baby, but something was very wrong with my body, my blood. Immediately we were rushed off to the hospital. We were still in shock as nurses and doctors explained the situation. I had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a very fast moving, fatal cancer of the blood. You know I love my side by side pics! We have this church down the road from us that has their own pumpkin patch. We went last year with the boys and again this year. The boys had so much fun running around and sitting on pumpkins! I’ll post more pics of it next week, but wanted to post this one real quick. They look so big 😭

Happy Halloween from Mr Fredricksen, Russell, and the Up house! .

As I was making the costume I started to think of the movie a lot and the deeper meaning behind it. I realized how much I could relate. I love the journey Mr. Fredricksen takes through out the movie and how he realizes there is still adventure out there for us! We still have a life to live and that’s okay. We don’t need to stay where we were, but keep moving forward by bringing the memories of our loved ones with us along the way! I know Justin would want us to keep adventuring and moving forward! (Getting a little emotional writing this 🤦‍♀️ the thought came to me as soon as I started writing this post)

I feel like it’s so easy to get stuck in a rut when feeding my boys. I even notice when I feed them too much of the same thing they start to get picky 😬 So it’s good to change things up and try new meal ideas! Hope this helps you get out of the rut!

I’m not joking when I say Halloween is one my favorite Holidays 🤣 I take it very seriously haha. Justin on the other hand did not share the same passion, but he did love me so he always played along! He even dressed up for a Mickey Halloween night at Disney World which means he REALLY loved me! Haha .

I’m about to change your life!!! I’ve traveled a lot with my sister and her kids before I ever had my own. When we would stay at hotels I watched her shove pack n plays in closets, corners, and even bathrooms to keep things dark and quiet. She would have to tip toe into bed hoping her baby wouldn’t see her. It was always so stressful and you want babies to sleep well while on vacation. No more tip toeing or lights off these @slumberpod will change your traveling life with kids! They look big in this pic because I have two, but they are no bigger than the actual pack n play. It makes it pitch black for the baby so you can turn the lights on and get dressed and they would never know you were in the room! The twins were sleeping better and longer in these than they did at home! I kinda wish I had them for my cribs haha 😂 They pack up small and I actually fit both in their suit case. The world needs to know about these because it was a game changer and made the trip sooo less stressful! Check out my stories for more info on the slumber pod! .

Her story: “I remember sitting in the bed as the nurse turned down the lights and the image of my baby again appeared on a monitor; instead of laughing as I watched her wiggle around like the week previous, I draped my arm across my face trying to hide my tears and steady my voice as I asked about the baby. After a few moments of measuring on the sonogram machine, the doctor confirmed that she had Fibular Hemimelia, and that she was also missing a metatarsal and a toe. Let the festivities begin! Minneapolis loves Halloween and they have so many activities for kiddos. They shutdown downtown Edina and had trick or treating at the stores and farm animals to pet! It was so cute and the boys had so much fun! We were finally able to use our @personalize2official trick or treat bags! 🙌 I love that I have kids now to actually go to all these things 🤣 I use to always take my sisters kids as an excuse to go myself! Haha I love doing all these fun activities! See my stories for more videos from today! .
