Why a Minecraft Tent Party is Such a Good Idea

I think this ended up being my boys’ favorite party we’ve ever done. There was just something about each of them having their own little tent, all their friends gathered around, and everyone playing in the same Minecraft world on their tablets and Switches.

They had snacks, they were laughing nonstop, and it felt like that cozy 90’s hangout vibe I was hoping to recreate just kids in the same room, having fun together. They still keep talking about how much they loved it. And honestly, the best part might have been after everyone left they got to crawl into their tents and sleep in them, and they were SO excited. It just felt simple and fun in the best way. Continue reading to see how I put it all together.

The Tents

For this Minecraft tent party the tents were honestly what made the whole party feel so special. It instantly turned a regular gaming night into something the boys felt like was next level. Each kid had their own little space, which made it feel cozy but also gave them that fun “sleepover” vibe even before it was actually bedtime.

I decided to keep things simple on my end and worked with Maddie here in Utah, and I’m so glad I did. She came and set everything up for me, which took so much stress off and made it look amazing without me having to DIY every single detail. If you’re local, I would highly recommend having her come and do it. It made the whole experience so easy and elevated. Check your local area to see if people do party tent rentals.

Inside each tent, we added a blanket, pillow, and a small table for their gaming setup and snacks. It didn’t need to be anything fancy, but having their own little spot made it feel like their own world. The boys thought it was the coolest thing ever and kept saying how fun it was to hang out in their tents together. We already have so many stuffed animals so it was fun to add those on as well.

Party Favor Bags

I made these party favor bags by finding colored bags that matched different Minecraft characters, and then designing simple square character faces to glue right onto the front. It was such an easy DIY but made a huge impact they turned out so cute and really tied into the theme. I filled them with fun little Minecraft goodies, and the kids loved them. How to Connect Kids’ Tablets for a Shared Minecraft World

One of the funnest parts of the party was having all the kids playing in the same Minecraft world together it gave it that cozy, 90’s hangout vibe but with a modern twist. If your kids have tablets (like iPads, Amazon Fire, or Android), they can easily join the same world using Minecraft’s multiplayer feature.

To set it up, make sure all devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi. One device (usually your child’s) will open their world and turn on “Multiplayer” in the settings. From there, the other kids can go to the “Friends” tab in Minecraft and join that world. It’s super simple once you’ve done it once, and the kids pick it up fast!

If you’re mixing in a Nintendo Switch, just know that it does require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to connect and play with other devices even if you’re all in the same room. So if your kids or their friends are bringing a Switch, double check they have that set up ahead of time to avoid any party day hiccups.

Once everyone is connected, they can build, explore, and play together in real time and honestly, that’s what made this party feel extra special.
